Cast Iron

Characteristics:

Excellent Wear Resistance: Certain types of cast iron (like ductile iron) produce gears with good wear resistance and can withstand high loads.

Good Machinability: Cast iron can be easily molded into complex shapes, making it efficient and cost-effective in production.

Cast iron gears are often used in low-speed, high-torque applications such as drive systems and large machines. While their toughness is relatively low, their weight and cost-effectiveness make them very popular in many applications.
